Opposition Movement for Multi-party Democracy (MMD) leader, Felix Mutati says it is every political party’s ambition to contest elections.
Responding to question from Journalists at the end of his four day tour of the Eastern province yesterday, Mr Mutati said the primary reason every political party exists including MMD is to contest elections.
And when asked to state his position regarding calls from members who demanded that the party should contest in the 2021 elections without going into an alliance with any party, Mr Mutati said the former ruling party will first prioritize mobilizing itself.
He said that politics is not merely about ambitions but rather creating a strong membership base that is capable of making a difference.
Mr Mutati said he will not be blinded by the future but will concentrate on gathering as many members as possible.
On Saturday, party members in Luangeni constituency demanded that Mr Mutati should contest in the 2021 elections without going into an alliance with any political party.
Speaking on behalf of the members, Jacob Shumba noted that the former ruling party partnered with the PF in 2016, but that they have been neglected.
