Chingola Councillors welcomes marketeers’ empowerment fund

By ALICE NACHILEMBE
Chingola Councillors have welcomed the move by Chingola Municipal Council to create the market empowerment fund following the construction of market shelters in the district.

The Councillors were reacting to the Town Clerks report during an ordinary Council meeting that it was a good gesture that the council is thinking about a poor marketeer.

Butungwa PF Ward Councillor Soko Mumba commended the move by the council especially that the economy of this district is not doing well as the mines are not helping much.

Mr Mumba said the market empowerment fund will encourage the marketeers to earn a living.

Chingola Town Clerk Kabombo Mutakela said the need has risen that the council create an empowerment fund for marketeers.

Mr Mutakela said marketeers need access to cheaper capital than borrowing from money lenders who charge them high interest rates

He said the market empowerment fund will get its revenues from budgetary allocations by the council CDF and any other donation done to the fund by the NGOs.

“Once the budget variation or supplementary budget are done by the committee the quick the market empowerment fund starts this this year,” he said.
