Siavonga receiving relief food

Siavonga District has started receiving relief food which is maize from the DMMU meant for hunger stricken areas of the district.

Siavonga District Commissioner Lovemore Kanyama said the food has started arriving in the district and distribution of the food will start once the whole allocation is in the district .

Mr Kanyama said Siavonga  is among-st the districts in the country that was allocated 100 metric tonnes of maize for hunger stricken areas.

He said apart from the relief food, his office has also requested for maize meant for community sale from the Food Reserve Agency FRA.

“This is to allow those with money to acquire the maize (food ), and we are expecting community sale food from the FRA very soon. Siavonga district has been hit by hunger and the 2018 – 2019 crops have all dried up,” he said.

Mr Kanyama said government under President Edgar Lungu, will see to it that no one dies from hunger.

He said it the responsibility of the government to take care of our people and there is no need for the people to start panicking as government is very much aware of the hunger situation in siavonga, and even outside siavonga.
