The National Road Fund Agency-NRFA- has urged local authorities where road toll fees are being collected to apply for funds under the newly introduced road toll management program and work on roads in their areas.
NRFA Public Relations Manager Alphonsius Hamachila says under the program district councils can identify roads for rehabilitation and access money from the agency for the projects.
Speaking when he briefed Senanga District Council Chairperson Gladys Kabika, Mr Hamachila said councils where toll fees are being collected can get money from the NRFA instead of waiting for the Road Development Agency-RDA- to identify roads which need to be rehabilitated.
He cites Kitwe and Ndola district councils as some of the authorities which have benefited from the road tolls management programme.
And Ms Kabika said the local authority will identify roads to be worked.
Ms. Kabika however appealed to government to consider rehabilitating the Senanga-Mongu road saying it may get worse if it’s not repaired.
And in a separate meeting, Kalabo District Commissioner Fridah Luhila said she is hopeful that the new toll gate on the Mongu-Kaoma road will help raise money for road rehabilitation in the district.
Meanwhile, Mr Hamachila assured Ms Luhila that the agency will closely work with the local leadership in maintaining roads.
