Chingola cops thwart copper theft, Chinese arrested

Police in Chingola have arrested a Chinese National and a Zambian in connection with attempted theft of copper concentrate valued at US $100, 000. 

Copperbelt Police Commissioner Charity Katanga has said the attempted theft of goods in transit happened on March 5, between 13:00hrs and 22:00hrs along Chingola-Kitwe Road.

Ms Katanga said a truck Reg No.  ACX 2439 and trailer ACM 2321 a Volvo truck with total weight 36 tonnes carrying copper concentrate from Kisenda DRC to Ndola reload when the truck driver working together with his unknown friends attempted to steal the contraband.

She said the truck being driven by Daka David 34, of no fixed abode and was being escorted by Panorama Security Guard Laston Makungu 27, of B 144 Mine area Chililabombwe.

“Daka deviated the said truck from Kalulushi Rd near Sabina in Kitwe to Chingola light industrial area near Status Hitech off Chingola-Chililabombwe road.

“And Zhang Lianan 42, of Chingola light industrial area a Chinese national is detained at Chingola Central police to help the police with investigation,” she said.

She said Daka and his helper are on the run and police have instituted a manhunt for the duo.

The truck is safely parked at Chingola Central police station.
