Zambia Institute for Independent Media Alliance (ZIIMA) has congratulated ZNBC Journalist Paul Shalala for winning the Jamal Khashoggi Award for being a Courageous Journalist.
ZIIMA takes note that winning an international Award requires more effort and innovation, a situation that is difficult to thrive through due to our daily responsibilities as journalists. This is why ZIIMA finds it encouraging and a worth emulating example to other Journalists to raise the Zambian flag high.
ZIIMA Vice President Jubiel Zulu said another Zambezi Radio Journalist Arthur Sikopo, has grabbed the runner up media award in the inaugural AMNH Excellence in Health Journalism Awards in Kigali, Rwanda.
Mr Zulu said the awards are inspiring as it shows that even Zambian journalists can compete at international level with journalists from well established international media institutions.
‘As ZIIMA, we fill honoured, happy and encouraged that Zambian journalist’s work can be recognized by International bodies. Conversing with Paul Shalala the winner of the Award, he fills the Jamal Khashoggi Courageous Journalism Award is humbling and motivating as it is named after a fearless Saudi journalist who paid the ultimate prize in the Saudi consulate in Turkey last year,” he said.
He said Mr Shalala has since encouraged all journalist in Zambia and Africa as a region to attempt International competitions as we all have the same skills and experience.
Mr Shalala is among other winners from Nigeria, UK, the USA and Pakistan.
Mr Zulu said ZIIMA is calling for unity and collaboration among-st journalists as we continue protecting the interests of Zambians through dissemination of information on different issues concerning our country.
