Kitwe District Commissioner Binwell Mpundu has urged members of the public to be vigilant of criminals opening and robbing cars especially at malls.
Mr Mpundu confirmed that the police have received reports of criminals suspected to be of foreign nationality breaking car windows with so much sophistication.
He said that one criminal was apprehended by alert people at Mukuba mall forcefully entering a parked car and is in police custody.
“Avoid leaving very valuable belongings in cars while we try by all means to address this new episode of criminality through the police and other security wings. I wish to assure the public that we will do everything possible to restore sanity in the city as efforts and strategies are quickly being devised.” He said.
Mr Mpundu has appealed to all residents of Kitwe to join hands with the police in curbing these acts that have rocked our city starting with Gangs and now car breaking thieves as well as rapists.
He said they was an emergency line which is toll free if you are using MTN (021 2231888) and unfortunately for now other networks are charged which number people should use in reporting suspected criminal activities.
“Let us all unite and fight these criminals, remember we are all part of the police and the police are part of us. No wonder our laws provides for citizen arrest,” he said.
