NDC distances itself from Kambwili’s xenophobic remarks, apologises

By JOHN SAKALA
National Democratic Congress (NDC) Secretary General Mwenya Musenge has distanced the party from Chishimba Kambwili’ s xenophobic remarks.

And Mr Musenge has apologised to the people of Asian origin and Zambians.

Speaking with The Independent Observer in an interview, Mr Musenge said the remarks of Mr Kambwili were unfornate and promoting xenophobic reaction.

He said Zambia ever since it got Independence, the first President Kenneth Kaunda embraced all races, tribe and creede.

“We have some Asians who are Zambians by birth, decent or by change of citizenship. We least expected that from NDC Consultant Mr Kambwili who has employed an Asian as his Accountant at Mwamoneni Engineering. His wife has been working in the United Kingdom for about 15 years doing the job citizens in that country can do.

“In short what our Consultant has done is not right and I feel bad that I have to speak against him. Even if the Asian compactor Driver was wrong castigating him in that manner was wrong,” he said.

Mr Musenge said the Zambian Government has awarded a contract under which the same Asians works.

He said at the end of the day Government would demand quality project from the contractor.

“This means it’s up to the company to recruit trustees who are key employees to deliver a quality project as demanded by the hiring Government,” he said.

Mr Mwenya was reacting to a video that has gone viral in which Mr Kambwili is seen castigating an Asian compactor Driver.

The xenophobic remarks puts Mr Kambwili under extra pressure.

On Saturday he received a vote of no confidence from nine districts out of 10 on the Copperbelt at the meeting held at Chilas.

The demand by members was that Mr Kambwili must resign from PF and focus on organising the party but he refused.

The insensitive remarks of Kambwili may just see him receive the bout this week out of NDC.
