Two illegal miners of Chingola have died on the spot after the rock in which they were conducting their illegal mining activities fell on them.
Copperbelt Commissioner of Police Charity Katanga has confirmed the death of the duo to The Independent Observer in an interview.
Ms Katanga identified the duo as Moses Mwenya 21, of SNDP Mikiloni Township and Boniface Mwewa 34, of 33 Bangweulu Road in Chiwempala.
She said the duo died after a rock fell on them whilst doing illegal mining activities.
“The fatality happened today February 18, 2019 between 00:00 hrs and 01:00 hrs at Moolmans Nchanga Open pit. The bodies have been retrieved and are in Nchanga North General Hospital,” she said.
