Three people have died while five others have sustained serious injuries in a road traffic accident which happened on Valentine’s Day February 14, 2019.
The trio met their fet as they were reportedly dashing to Libonji Creation pleasure resort for Valentine cerebrations.
Police Spokesperson Esther Katongo said the accident happened at 16:20 hours on Chililabombwe road at Hipopu area in Chingola District.
Ms Katongo said the accident happened when the Toyota Spacio BCB 2795ZM which was heading to to Chingola was not by an on coming truck.
“Involved was a Toyota Spacio being driven by Evans Muma Mwenya 29, of Chililabombwe who sustained multiple body injuries and died on the spot. On board were seven passengers of which two (02) unknown women aged between 35 and 40 years sustained head injuries and died upon reaching the hospital.
“One unknown woman aged between 35 and 40 years and four unidentified male persons aged between 25 and 35 of unknown address sustained various injuries and were at the time they were rushed to the Hospital, in unconscious state and are admitted to Nchanga North Hospital,” she said.
Ms Katongo said the Spacio was hit by a Howo truck registration number BCB 4690 ZM being driven by Brighton Mambwe 31 of Ganertone in Kitwe.
She said the accident happened when the the Toyota Spacio from Chilillabombwe was hit by the truck that was overtaking improperly from Chingola.
Ms Katongo said Mambwe has been charged and detained for causing death by dangerous driving.
