Lightening strikes Sesheke PF camp, kills one

 

 

A 21-Year-old woman, PF official has been burnt to death after lightening struck the ruling party’s camp in Sesheke in the ongoing campaigns for the February 12 by-election.

Seven other party members sustained serious burns but survived the incident which happened on Tuesday afternoon.

Western Province Police Commissioner Charles Lungu confirmed the incident and identified the deceased as Masendo Wamunyima.

Mr Lungu said at the time of the incident, other party members were in field campaigning and only eight members were in camp.

He said the incident happened in Nayanda Village in Chief Silumbu’s area in Sesheke around 15:00 hours.

Among the people who were burnt was a three-year-old girl identified as Nanjeke Maziyezi.

Others who sustained burns are Matome Kushandoka, Beatrice Wamunyima, Pezo wamunyima, Makutu Sepiso, Chrispin Kundoka Namasiku Matomola.
Mr Lungu said officers visited the scene and took the injured to Yeta Hospital for treatment while Wamunyima’s body was deposited in the mortuary at the same hospital.

Sesheke is currently a hive of political activities as parties campaign for the by-election.
The seat fell vacant after the death of Frank Kufwakandi who was elected on the UPND in 2016.
