Opposition Democratic Party (DP) Spokesperson Judith Kabemba says the party will commerce proceedings of contempt of court on the Home Affairs official who issued an alarming statement to the nation stating that the party remains de-registered.
Ms Kabemba said the statement released by the Ministry of Home Affairs on February 2, 2019 was false and alarming to the nation.
She said members of the public should ignore the statement issued by the ministry of home affairs as it was misleading and sign of desperation of the ruling party to cling to power.
Speaking during a press briefing held at Cross Roads lodge in Kitwe yesterday, Ms Kabemba said the issuing of such a statement clearly indicates that the Ministry of Home Affairs is been run by cadres from the ruling party.
Ms Kabemba wondered how the ministry was quick to issue a statement and announce that the DP should cease to conduct any political activities across the country until the court of appeal orders otherwise when the ruling was that the decision to deregister the DP remained certified and was not stayed.
“The decision by the state through the court to stay operations of the Democratic Party was squashed by the court but stayed the issue of printing a duplicate certificate until review. I assure our members across the country that the ruling made on January 29, 2019 by Judge Sharon Newa makes the DP validly registered and it free operate. The ruling was at high court and not appeals court as earlier announced by the Ministry.
“The DP is disappointed how a simple writing can be misinterpreted by officials and custodians of the Ministry of Home Affairs. The only matter which is before the court is the stay of printing a duplicate certificate for the party until determination of the matter at the appeals court,” she said.
