Kitwe Council nods K183.3 million

The Kitwe City Council has approved a budget of K183.342 million for year 2019 representing an increase of about 3 percent compared to the 2018 budget.

Speaking during an ordinary council meeting this week, Chairperson of the Finance, Valuation and Commercial Committee Collins Chansa said the increment in revenue is coming from the plan scrutiny fees of K0.369 million, communication mast levy K1.10 million and K0.75 million from billboard.

Mr Chansa said the main source of income will come from the rates which will amount to K 59.688 million with K 46.810 million coming from fees and charges.

He said the national support will be anticipated at K28.283 million while charges will be at K21.775 million representing a 26%,15% and 12% respectively.

“Other sources of income will come from levies, permits and local development fund.

‘The K183.342 million budget will not include possible improvements in the condition of service for employees by way of collective agreements on salary increments for officers and division IV employees,” he said.

Mr Chansa who is also Bupe ward Councilor said a total of K107.418 million is earmarked to be spent on service provision to the community adding that K 3.360 million will be allocated towards ward development fund activities.

The ordinary meeting was chaired by acting Mayor Evaristo Chilufya and attended by various heads of government departments.
