Chipata explosive armed bandits heist K100, 000, caught

Police in Chipata have arrested three men in connection with theft of K108, 000 after breaking into a shop around down shops area.  

Outgoing Eastern Province Police Chief Alex Chilufya has confirmed the development to the media.

Mr Chilufya has identified the suspects as Chris Mbewe, 38, Edward Phiri, 41 and Chris Banda, 29 while two others are on the run.

He said the incident occurred between January 21 and 22, 2019 from 22:30-05:00 hours when the suspects blew the wall of the shop of Yunus Suleiman using explosives.

They again blew the safe and stole cash amounting to K108, 000.

Mr Chilufya said Police have since managed to recover some household goods as proceeds of crime, including some money, from the arrested suspects.

Meanwhile, Police in Chipata have launched investigations in a case were Nebert Sakala, who is on the run went to Cavmont bank in possession of forged bank notes amounting to K5, 100.

He said the incident occurred on January 22, 2019 around 13:00 hours at the bank.

He said that the matter was reported by Kalulu Kapalu, 36, of Asiloti Township who is the Bank manager/Feel Free Radio.
