Zambians living in South Africa will hold a memorial service for the late former Vice Republican President Lupando Mwape tomorrow Thursday January 24, 2019.
Zambia’s High Commissioner to South Africa, Emmanuel Mwamba says the service will be held in honour of the former Vice Republican President for his contribution to Zambia’s development.
Mr Mwamba said the memorial service will be held at St Martin de Porres Catholic Church in Craighall Park in Johannesburg and presided over by father Harrison Mulenga and Chimwemwe Mtonga before repatriation to Zambia.
He said logistics regarding the repatriation of the body of Mr Mwape have been completed in readiness for repatriation on Friday January 25, 2019.
Mr Mwamba said the body is expected to arrive in Zambia aboard South African Airways at 15:00 hrs, accompanied by his widow, Happy Prisca Mwenya Mwape, Zambia’s High Commissioner to South Africa and other family members
President Edgar Lungu has declared a 3-day period of national mourning that is expected to begin once the body is in Zambia.
Mr Mwape served as Vice-President of Zambia from 2004 to 2006 under President Levy Mwanawasa.
He also served as Zambia’s Ambassador to the People’s Republic of China.
Hon. Lupando Mwape died on Monday at Avrywp Medical Centre in Johannesburg where his remains have been deposited at the hospital’s mortuary.
