Chipata Council works down tools

By Onishias Maamba in Chipata
Unionized Council workers at Chipata City Council have downed tools demanding for their December and November salaries.

And the striking workers have accused Chipata Town Clerk (TC) Vivian Chikoti of always being on the move, a thing they said was not helping the Local Authority.

Zambia United Local Authority Unionized Workers (ZULAWU) Chipata Branch chairperson Milimo Buumba said the workers had resolved to down tools and would only resume work once their demands are delivered.

Mr Buumba said there is no reason for the workers to continue working when their two months salaries had not been paid.

He said only essential workers such as the Council Police will be the ones working.

And Mr Buumba said workers had raised numerous concerns that the Town Clerk was always on the move.

He said movements had resulted in her failing to address pressing issues affecting workers welfare.

“The union will be engaging her as she returns to the office on Monday,” he said.
