Cop embarrasses Zambia Police

By JOHN SAKALA
Police say there is a very embarrassing video circulating on social media in which a Police officer from Mobile Unit in combat uniform is seen pleading for leniency from agitated members of the public for not issuing a receipt after he allegedly collected money from a motorist at Kagem security check point on the Copperbelt.

Police Spokesperson Esther Katongo says the officer in the video has been identified and procedures for administrative action have been commenced.

Ms Katongo has appealed to the complainants in the video to make a formal report at any nearest Police Station and give an account on what transpired.

“The discreditable conduct by the officer in question is uncalled for as it has portential to put the institution in disrepute. All Police officers are reminded to always be professional in the discharge of their duties and stay away from corruption.

“We further urge members of the public to always demand for a government receipt for any money paid to a police office in fees or fine. This will greatly help in the fight against corruption,” she said.
