Luanshya Council nods K62m budget

Luanshya Municipal Council has approved K62 million for Budget for 2019 civic year.

The budget was approved during a Special full Council Meeting held during the week at Council Chamber.

Luanshya Nathan Chanda Bwalya who chaired the Special full Council meeting implored management and council as a whole to exercise financial discipline in the management of Council resources.

Mr Bwalya said it was imperative for the local authority to priotise service delivery to the people of Luanshya.

He urged management to operate within the scope of the budget by setting up stringent cost control measures so as to provide adequate and sustainable service delivery to Luanshya residents.

He called on his fellow Civic Leaders to sensitise the community through their respective wards on the importance of paying their local taxes which include land rates, rentals and other service charges as this helps to improve the Council’s service delivery.

And speaking during the same meeting, the Chairperson of the Finance, Human Resource and General Purposes Committee Councilor Justus Bwalya said Luanshya Municipal Council had recorded an increase in its revenue collection efficiency from 58% in 2017 to 66% in 2018.

The Chairperson commended the local authority for recording increment in revenue collection efficiency in the year 2018.

He said the much needed revenue will continue to improve the council’s services to the people and in turn contribute to the social and economic development of the town.

The budget is subject to approval by Minister of Local Government.
