70 year old man murdered in cold blood

Felix Mwelwa was found dead by Florence at her bar near a non-functional hammer mill

Copperbelt police commanding officer Peacewell Mweemba said the incident was reported by Florence Chilembo 59 who had found a lifeless body lying in her bar.

He said that the incident occurred between January 4 and 5 2023 at 19:00 hours at Mutemba bar of the same area.

“Brief facts are that Florence had put her hammer mill machine which is not functional at a non-operational old Mutemba Bar building in Mikomfwa, Luanshya in July last year as she had done every morning to checks on her hammer mill machine which is kept at the said building.”

0n January 5, 2023 at around 05:50hours Florence went to check on the said machine at the building as usual and noticed a body of a male person dead in a pool of blood,” he said.

Mr Mweemba said that later Florence informed her neighbor Annie Phiri 50 also of the same area about the incident.

“Together they went and properly checked on him and that’s when the body was identify by Annie as that Felix Mwelwa 70, of the same area,” he said.

Mr Mweemba said police visited the scene and discovered that the deceased sleeping in the said building when he was hit on the head with some big stones.

He said the stones were found at the scenes which have since been recovered and it is believed that stones cause blunt force trauma to the victim’s head.

“The deceased sustained deep cuts on his head. Before his death the deceased was last seen in Butungwa Overspill drinking beer on 4th January, 2023 at 18:30hrs,” he said.

Mr Mweemba also said the the body has since been deposited at Thompson District Hospital Mortuary in Luanshya awaiting post mortem and burial.

He said that a docket of case has been opened and no arrests have been made.
