7 perish in a road traffic accident in Mpika

Seven people have died while 29 others including the driver are battling for the lives after a bus in which they where traveling in plunged into a stream in Mpika District.

Police Deputy Spokesperson Danny Mwale said the people sustained serious injuries.

He said the accident occurred on February 26, 2022 at around 21:30 hours at Lusu village about 48 Kilometers south of Mpika town.

Mr Mwale said the driver identified as Musa Andrew 53 of Kitwe lost control of the bus registration number ABE 5433, property of Nico Motorways, and in the process careered off the road and plunged into a stream killing Seven people on the spot.

He said all the injured victims are admitted to Chilonga Mission Hospital while the bodies of the four (Two men and Two women) have been deposited in the hospital mortuary awaiting identification.

“We shall update you with the identities of the victims once the operation is complete as most of the survivors are seriously injured,” he said.
