Seven pedestrians have died after being run over by a speeding Toyota Hilux.
The accident happened when Elevensone Kombe lost control of Hilux registration number BAE 8527 and in the process careered off the road where he went to hit the seven pedestrians.
Kombe 30, who is who is an employee of Chembe District Council was driving along Samfya – Serenje road.
Police Spokesperson Esther Katongo said the accident happened yesterday at 20:00 hours at Musaba village.
Ms Katongo said Kombe lost control of the Hilux and careered off the road to the right side of the bush and in the process hit pedestrians who were off the road.
She said the District Council Secretary who was also on board during the accident survived with minor injuries.
Ms Katongo said Kombe has been charged with seven counts of Causing Death by Dangerous Driving and will appear in court soon.
