Police in Lusaka have arrested six suspects in the murder and aggravated robbery in which bandits had raided home of Protective Unit police officer Sergeant Billy Simwamba killing his wife, leaving him and his brother severely injured.

The bandits armed with iron bars on January 10, this year, raided the home of Sgt Simwamba 39, demanding for a gun.
Zambia Police Public Relations Officer Esther Katongo said six suspects were arrested.
Ms Katingo identified the six as Kebby Jere 34, Evans Mwaba alias Shilozi 38, Clement Sinkamba alias Yeelo 28, Isa Mtonga Zulu 27, Mathews Malisawa 23 and Elijah Phiri aged 25.
“All these have been arrested in connection with the murder of Joy Mpandu Simwamba, a wife of a Protective unit Police Officer who also sustained injuries after they were attacked at their Lusaka’s Makeni Villa Home on January 19, 2019 at about 02:00 hours by criminals armed with iron bars.
“Police also recovered from various one Blanket, two cell phones, a bicycle, a school bag, a mattress and other items, property of the Sgt Simwamba. Police also recovered a jacket and three Police combat uniforms from a pit latrine where they were dumped,” she said.
She said the suspects have been charged with Aggravated Robbery contrary to section 294 and Murder contrary to Section 200 of the Penal Code cap 87 of the Laws of Zambia.
“They are detained in Police Custody and will appear in court soon.
In another development, a search for Constable Edwin Kabasiya, the officer behind the shooting of another officer Constable Lennox Kapila is still on. We appeal to members of the public to working with the Police in the search so that the suspect can be brought to book,” she said.
