Sexual GBV bad for inclusive development

Government says it places great value on the importance of ensuring an enabling environment for women and girls.

Northern Province Deputy Permanent Secretary Lewis Mwape said President Hakainde Hichilema has placed great value to empowering women and girls.

Mr Mwape said the new dawn government has identified three critical dimensions of empowerment and participation of women.

“The New Dawn Administration identifies three critical dimensions of empowerment and enhanced participation of women in development: capabilities, for example, in the areas of education and health; access to opportunities and resources, for example, to employment or land; and agency, for example, women’s ability to participate in decision-making processes. These are important aspects in Gender and Development” he said.

He said this when he toured Natwampane Project Institutions and Sites the Project Management Team in Mbala, Mpulungu and SengaHill.

The Project which is largely supported by the EU and other partners is aimed Ending Sexual Gender Based Violence in Northern and Luapula Provinces.

He said it is important to note that President Hakainde has placed great value on  the importance of ensuring an enabling environment for women and girls.

“An enabling environment may be interpreted as a set of interrelated and interdependent systemic conditions such as policies, laws, institutional mechanisms, resources, etc., which facilitate the promotion of gender equality,” he said.
