51 schools disinfected in Solwezi

Solwezi Municipal Council in collaboration with Ministry of Health has disinfected 51 ne (51) schools out of 117 schools in the district.

SMC Assistant Public Relations Manager Esther Chirwa said the continued disinfection of schools is one among other measures of preventing spread of COVID-19 and other respiratory illnesses among pupils following the Presidential directive to reopen exam classes.

Ms Chirwa said the fumigation is imperative in reducing chances of recording any cases in schools.

She said a team of Council Health Inspectors and Ministry of Health have also commenced inspections, sensitizations and disinfection of schools in peri- urban areas.

“So far, Kyantobo Community School, Lwamakanda and Mashimpi Primary Schools in Kamalamba Ward have been disinfected. However, the target for this week is to cover six (6) schools in Kamalamba and Kapijimpanga Wards among them, Kyafukuma and St. Francis Secondary Schools respectively, she said.

Ms Chirwa said during inspections of schools that are disinfected, it was observed that some did not place hand washing facilities nor kept their toilets clean while wearing of face masks among some children was not observed.

She said the team of inspectors on the ground seized the opportunity to sensitise school management on the importance of observing high standards of hygiene and other preventive measures against COVID-19.

Ms Chirwa said the inspection of schools in peri-urban areas is also vital in ensuring that laid down preventives measures are observed.
