5 people perish in separate traffic road accidents

Five people have died in separate road traffic accidents in Eastern, Lusaka and Southern.

Police Spokesperson Esther Katongo said in Nyimba a  3 year-old girl pedestrian died on the way to Nyimba District Hospital after a rider of a motor bike Daniel Lungu 26  lost control of the bike due to inexperience and hit Abigail Sakala who was crossing the road.

Ms Katongo said in Lusaka, one person died on the spot while two others sustained serious injuries after they were hit by a motor vehicle Toyota Prado ABX 1833 driven by Faustina Mpuso 35 of Lusaka’s Chalala area.

She said the accident happened when the driver lost control of the motor vehicle and went off the road and hit a stationary Toyota IST and later hit  Amadi Phiri of Hill View Park and injured Esnart Zulu 38, wife to the deceased victim and Chikondi Phiri 18.

And in a separate Road Traffic Accident in Lusaka, an unidentified pedestrian aged between 30 and 40, died on the way to UTH after he was involved in a hit and run road traffic accident.

Ms Katong said in Southern Province, a cyclist identified  as Alfred Chinya 66, of Ngwezi Settlement died on the spot in an accident that happened when an unknown driver of an unknown motor vehicle hit the cyclist on an Eagle bicycle.

In another accident which occurred in Namwala a rider of an unregistered Simbaland motor bike, identified as Mosse Tick 38 died on the spot while his pillion Cliff Muchila 49, of Kabanze village sustained injuries after the rider of the motor bike failed to control the motor bike due to inexperience and in the process went and hit into a fallen tree on the left side of the road and fell off.
