5 die in the Mazabuka road accident, 3 left seriously injured

Four people have died on the spot while another died on the way to the hospital following a fatal road traffic accident in Mazabuka.

The accident happened when Chari Charles 54, of South Africa driving a Hino truck lost control due to excessive speed thereby colliding head on with a Volvo truck driven by driven by Emmanuel Chimbipa 34, of Chikumbi area in Kabwe.

Sadly, the Hino went on to hit in three other vehicles from the rear which made the driver of the Toyota Noah to lose control and over turned fatally breaking the neck of the driver.

Police Spokesperson Esther Katongo who confirmed the fatal accident to The Independent Observer, said four people died on the spot after sustaining head injuries.

Ms Katongo said the accident happened this morning December 19, 2018 at 06:40 hours at Dallas area North of Mazabuka town along great north road involving six vehicles leaving three others with serious injuries.

She said the driver of Noah Emmanuel Daka 40, of Hill side Mazabuka sustained a fractured neck and died on the way to the hospital.

Ms Katongo said the accident happened when Mr Charles driving from Livingstone to Lusaka lost control and went on initially to collide with an incoming Volvo truck and trailer registration numbers ABX 8247 and ALR 7391T respectively.

Sadly other vehicles coming Lusaka direction went on to plunge themselves into the Hino truck.

Involved were a Toyota Noah registration number BAH 9525 from Livingstone to Lusaka, driven Mr Daka who lost control and broke his neck and died after he was being taken to the hospital.

Also a Nissan driven Odycious Hamweemba 48, of Kakumbi site and service registration number BX 88 XM gp from Livingstone to Lusaka together a Benz light truck registration number BY 97 GR gp towing a trailer registration number CM 64 XG GP and a Toyota Alphard registration number BAH 1786 driven by Emelia Mbewe Thokozani 26, of Chelston plunged into a Hino truck.

“The accident happened when the driver of the Hino Truck, due to high speed lost control of the motor vehicle and in the process hit into a Volvo truck which was coming from the opposite direction, proceeded to hit in the other three motor vehicles from the rear which made the driver of the Toyota Noah to lose control and over turned,” he she said.

Ms Katongo said all the bodies are in Mazabuka District Hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem.
