Five people have died while three others sustained injuries when the driver of a Toyota Harrier lost control due to excessive speed and overturned.
Taila Simpemba 22, of Nakonde was heading to Northern direction and when he reached Chief Chisunka area, he lost control due to excessive speed and overturned.
He died on the spot.
Police Spokesperson Esther Katongo said in the accident happened last night September 28, 2020 around 20:30 hours along Mansa- Samfya road.
Ms Katongo said others who died were Jackson Nshinka 32, a boy named Morgan Kachemba 5, a girl named Bridget Chishima , age not known, another boy named Amon Nshinka 2, all of Kaputa District.
She said the injured were in Mansa General Hospital being attended.
Ms Katongo identified the injured as Mary Chileya 22, a boy Reuben Musonda aged five (05) months, and Elijah, other names not known aged 30.
“The bodies of the deceased are in Mansa General Hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem. We are saddened by the increased numbers of road traffic accidents recorded in the recent past in which a lot of people have lost their lives.
“Most of these accidents are being attributed to human error mostly over speeding. We therefore appeal to motorists to drive with caution and ensure that they observe road traffic rules and regulations,” she said.
