5 die in a road accident

Five people have died while 12 others sustained serious injuries when a vehicle they were in hit into the stationary vehicle.

The fatal road accident happened when the driver of the Mitsubishi Rosa failed to control the vehicle due to excessive speed hit in to the stationary vehicle.

Police Spokesperson Esther Katongo said five people died in the accident which happened at area called sixteen along great north road.

Ms Katongo said the victims have not yet been identified but among then are two unknown women and three Unknown men who died on the Spot.

She said the 12 others sustained serious injuries are in Kapiri Mposhi District Hospital.

Ms Katongo said two vehicles were involved a Mitsubishi Rosa Bus registration number ACV 9105 driven by Nduwe Kasongo 46 of Lusaka’s Libala Stage Four (4) and another driver identified as Vincent Mumba 29, of Lilanda Estate who had parked his motor vehicle in the middle of the road.

She said the accident occurred on 16th October, 2019 at 19:30 hours at Sixteen (16) area along Great North Road.

In a similar development two people have died in a road traffic accident after the vehicle there were in caught fire when it was hit into by an oncoming vehicle.

Ms Katongo said the accident happened when the driver of the Toyota Regis who was approaching from South to north direction, decided to U- turn and in the process was hit into by an oncoming vehicle a Tata truck which was approaching from the opposite direction.

She said involved were two motor vehicles namely a Tata truck registration number ALF 1607 which caught fire and was being driven by Michael Sakala 34, of Ndola who escaped unhurt whilst the other person he was with on the vehicle Rogers Kabanda 30, of Lubuto, Ndola sustained a cut on the head and was treated at Thompson Hospital and discharged.

Others were Innocent Musonda of Chipulukusu Ndola driving a Toyota Regius registration number BCC 3074 which also got burnt the driver and his passenger Anold Chinyemba of Hillcrest in Ndola were both trapped and later burnt and died.

This occurred on 16th October, 2019 at 10:00 hours on Luanshya- Ndola road near ‘S ‘ bend in Luanshya.
