The Department of Immigration has apprehended 202 persons of different nationalities for different immigrations offences.
And the Department has also detained 313 suspected illegal immigrants pending other formalities.
Immigrations Public Relations Officer Namati Nshinka said on Sunday May 29, 2022 apprehended 202 persons of different nationalities on the last day of a three day clean-up operation conducted in various parts of Lusaka.
Mr Nshinka said the number of persons nabbed from May 27 to 29, 2022 to 436.
He said that after the screening exercise, the Officers released 57 persons upon production of proof of legal immigration status in Zambia and mandated 72 to report to Immigration Headquarters for further investigations.
Mr Nshinka said the operation was led by the Department of Immigration, with the close involvement of Officers from other security wings.
“We are concerned by the growing trend where some members of the public are harbouring illegal immigrants by providing them with accommodation, lodging facilities, and sub-letting to them immovable property such as shops and market stalls. Harbouring is unlawful and is punishable under the Immigration and Deportation Act No.18 of 2010 of the Laws of Zambia,” he said.
He said the immigration department is committed to facilitating and regulating migration to contribute to internal security and sustainable socio-economic development.
