43 people arrested in connection with political violence

By MAIMBO MWEEMBA
Police says that 43 people have so far been arrested countrywide for engaging in political violence, since the campaigns started in May.

Inspector General of Police Kakoma Kanganja has advised politicians to learn from those that have been arrested and charged which include UPND Ndola Central Candidate Frank Tayali.

“Many cases are being investigated while some suspects are currently appearing in court, I want to encourage officers to keep engaging political party leaders on the need to maintain peaceful campaigns,” he said.

Mr Kanganja also encouraged officers to be professional in their engagements by avoiding any political affiliation.

Mr Kanganja said this when he addressed Police officers in Mongu District of Western Province.

The inspector General of police is in the province where he is conducting a security check and readiness of officers for the forthcoming General election.

And Western Province Police Commissioner Diamond Likashi said that officers are on the ground to stop any form of violence.
