Two people among them a driver and a Grade three pupil (pedestrian) at Ntatumbila Primary School have died on the spot, while five sustained serious multiple injuries in a road traffic accident in Nakonde.
Among the five injured persons are two pedestrian (pupils) also of Ntatumbila primary school and three passengers .
The accident happened when the driver of the Scania Truck lost control of the motor vehicle due to excessive speed and careered off the road.
And in the process the truck overturned and the cargo container fell off the trailer to the right side and landed on three pedestrians ( pupils) who were walking off the road.
Police Spokesperson Esther Katongo said that due to the Impact, the driver sustained suspected multiple body injuries and died on the spot while the three passengers on board sustained serious injuries.
Ms Katongo said the accident occurred in Nakonde today September 27, 2021 around 11:30 hours at Ntatumbila Village, 63 Kilometres West of Nakonde Town in Chief Waitwika’s area along Nakonde- Mbala road.
She said involved was a Scania Truck registration number ACZ 9394 and Trailer number ACX 1132T, property of Jabca Investment Construction Ltd of Kitwe, which was being driven by Isaac Simuchimba 35, of Ntindi village, Nakonde from West to Eastern direction with three passengers on board.
Ms Katongo said the truck was laden with Manganese ores enroute to Tanzania.
She said those trapped underneath the cargo container are Juvenile Georgina Namwinga nine of Ntatumbila Village in Nakonde a Grade three pupil at Ntatumbila Primary School and died on the spot.
Others are two other pupils of the same school aged 10 and six sustained serious body injuries and are admitted to Nakonde District Hospital.
Ms Katongo the bodies of the two victims persons are in Nakonde Urban clinic mortuary awaiting postmortem.
