The Zambian Association of Indigenous Tour Operators president Patson Chifumbe  in Livingstone has expressed concern over the construction of an office block for the Department of National Parks and Wildlife in the Mosi-Oa-Tunya National Park.

Dr  Chifumbe said that if the construction of the offices continues, tourists using the road that leads to the Victoria Falls on the Zambian side will no longer have the opportunity to view elephants on the way.

He said that this is because the site of the building is on a route which elephants use.

Dr Chifumbe said government departments should not destroy the environment but instead lead by example and stop tampering with the elephant corridor in the Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park.

“I want to appeal to government to intervene in the matter and stop the construction of the building, because efforts by the Zambian Association of Indigenous Tour Operators to engage the Department of National Parks and Wildlife and the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Tourism and Arts over the matter, to no avail,” he said.

Dr Chifumbe said this during a press briefing held in Livingstone.
