40, 067 voters registered in Kitwe

The phase one Voter Registration Exercise in Kitwe has registered 40,067 voters eligible to participate in the 2021 general elections.

The Voter Registration Exercise is still underway with phase two, after the completion of phase one that ran from Monday, 9th November, 2020 to Monday 16th November, 2020.

Of the reported number in phase one, a total of 17161 are female representing 43% while 22906 are male representing 57% captured from the 5 constituencies  in Kitwe namely Nkana, Chimwenwe, Kwacha, Wusakile and Kamfinsa respectively.

In this regard, Kitwe City Council would like to encourage members of the general public who meet the requirements of the suffrage to register as voters for them to be eligible to participate in the 2021 general elections.

The Voter Registration Exercise has continued with phase two running from Tuesday, November 17, 2020 to Tuesday November 24, 2020.

“We are hopeful that many voters will be captured in phase two as the Civic Centre is operating 24 hours to ensure that people register as voters at their convenient time.”

Everyone is eligible to register as a voter as long as they have obtained the National Registration Card and they are above the age of 18 years.

This is according to the media statement by Kitwe City Council Public Relations Manager Chola Mwamba.
