Four people have died on the spot when the driver of the newly bought Nissan Caravan failed to keep to its lane thereby colliding with an oncoming car.
Deputy Police Spokesperson Rae Hamoonga said the four died when Clive Makumbinde 35, a Zimbawean national failed to maintain to his lane.
Mr Hamoonga said Mr Makumbinde who had four passengers on board was coming from Mkushi direction heading into Kapiri along Great North road when he collided with a Nakonde bound Toyota Land Cruiser Prado Reg No. ALL 5946.
He said all four passangers aboard the Nissan caravan died on the spot but Mr Makumbimbe survived with while injuries.
“Of the dead, three have been identified as Leah Siyachaba Sabi, a Teacher of Chadiza, Charles Zulu, a Teacher at Katete Secondary, Salia Kaleb Mashuta a female Nurse at Chama District Hospital and unknown elderly woman of unknown address.
“In the Prado driven by Andison Lungu of Nakonde were three passengers on board namely: Jonas Musonda 49, a Headteacher of Kasama Skills, Amos Simutowe of Mbala Day Secondary and Kasisi Jameson other details unknown believed to be coming from burial for the late BETUZ Secretary General.
“All of them sustained serious bodily injuries and are admitted in Mkushi District hospital whilst the four bodies are in Mkushi hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem,” he said.
Mr Hamoonga said both vehicles were extensively damaged.
The accident happened at Kasokota area around 20:50 hours yesterday April 25, 2019.
