34 junkies arrested in Lusaka

Thirty-Four suspected criminals commonly known as ‘junkies’ have been detained by police after numerous complaints of theft from members of the public.

Recently, there have been complaints, of junkies terrorising members of the public in Lusaka, with some reports coming from Chawama, where area Member of Parliament Tasila Lungu Mwansa called for action to stop the junkies.

The complaint was received with an assurance by Minister of Home Affairs and internal security Jack Mwiimbu stating that measures are being taken to stop the criminality.

And Police spokesperson Rae Hamoonga said police have detained 34 suspected criminals commonly known as Junkies.

“This follows numerous complaints of theft from persons as well as thefts from motor vehicles by members of the public in Lusaka. Police on November, 4th, 2022 raided the Central business area managed to apprehend 34 suspected criminals commonly known as Junkies. The same have since been detained in Police custody pending further screening process,” he said.
