Police in Chipata of Eastern Province have arrested a 22 year old female adult in connection with the murder of her husband.
This was after a member of the public reported that Mwenge Musonda a 30 year old male of Mutanda village in Chief Msoro of Kasenengwa District was murdered by his wife Violent Mbewe of the same address.
It is alleged that while Mr Musonda was fast asleep; his wife Violent Mbewe set the house ablaze in which her husband was.
Zambia Police Spokesperson Esther Mwaata Kantonga said that this occurred on June 2, 2021, around 22:00 hours at Mutanda village of Chief Msoro.
“It is alleged that on June, 2, 2021 at around 07:00 hours, Mr Musonda picked up a quarrel with his wife after informing her of his intention to marry a second wife, a fight ensued which led to the husband leaving home for a drinking spree and came back around 22:00 hours but the marital dispute continued, when Musonda went to sleep, his Violent set the house ablaze and runaway,” she said.
Ms Katongo said that the Police visited the scene of crime found the body burnt beyond recognition.
“Family members were advised to bury the remains of the deceased and mark the grave pending exhumation and Postmortem, meanwhile a manhunt was launched and the suspect was apprehended with the help of members of public,” she said.
Ms Katongo said the suspect Violent Mbewe is currently detained in Police custody and is yet to be charged with the offence of Murder contrary to section 200 of the Penal Code of the Laws of Zambia
