3 women attacked by an elephant in Luangwa

Three women were attacked by an Elephant in Chief Mpuka’s area in Luangwa District.

Deputy Police Spokesperson Danny Mwale said the three identified as Ruth Phiri 32, Mirriam Phiri 21 and Jennifer Phiri 19, all of Kapyanika village were attacked while on their way home from Mandombe Hospital.

Mr Mwale said the three are said to be members of one family.

He said the incident occurred on September 11, 2023 between 18:00 hours and 19:00 hours.

Mr Mwale said brief facts are that the victims had gone to Mandombe Hospital at around 17:30 hours where they have a relative who is admitted.

“On their way back home, they were attacked by an Elephant which they saw at close range. Miriam sustained an open wound on the right leg and bruised right hand, Jenifer sustained chest pains and Ruth escaped unhurt,” he said.

He said the two injured victims are admitted to the same Hospital where they are receiving treatment.

Their condition is said to be stable.

Meanwhile, officers from the Department of National Parks and Wildlife managed to bring down the Elephant on September 12, 2023 around 16:00 hours.
