3 nabbed for trafficking in cannabis

The Drug Enforcement Commission  has arrested three people for trafficking in over 300 kilograms of loose cannabis in separate incidents. 

DEC Public Relations Officer Hussein Khan said the Commission has jointly charged and arrested Chipungu Sikonde 29, and Justine Mulenga 23, both of Mpulungu in Northern Province for trafficking in 285 rolls of loose cannabis weighing 301 kilograms.

Mr Khan said the suspects were apprehended at a known filling station in Mpulungu with the contraband wrapped in banana leaves and concealed in black plastics.

He said they are detained in lawful custody and will appear in court soon.

In a similar development the Commission in Lusaka has charged and arrested a former student at a known University for two counts of Trafficking in Psychotropic Substances namely 31 grams and 800 grams of cannabis respectively.

Mr Khan said Twambo Sichombo 22, was apprehended in Mass Media area with 20 cupcakes laced with cannabis weighing 800 grams.

He said a search of his room led to the discovery of 31 grams of loose cannabis.

Mr Khan said Sichombo is believed to have been selling the cannabis laced cupcakes to students in the Mass Media and surrounding areas.

He is detained in lawful custody will appear in court soon.

“The Commission would like to sternly warn all individuals involved in selling cannabis and other illegal drugs to desist forthwith as they will be met with the full force of the law. The Commission will not condone and watch selfish individuals peddle drugs to youths in learning institutions thereby derailing their academic progression,” he said.
