3 drown on Lake Kariba

Three people are feared dead while one managed to swim to safety in Gwembe.

The incident happened when a plank paddling boat they were travelling in on Lake Kariba was hit by a strong wave and later capsized around 20:30 hrs on November 3.

Assistant Public Relations Officer Godfrey Chilabi has confirmed the incident.

Mr Chilabi identified those feared dead as Abraham Chingombe 27, Ben Chishala 20, and Chilamuka Jiwawa 24, all of Namanzuma area of Gwembe.

He said the survivor who reported is Chanda Chibale 26, of Namanzuma area.

“The four fishermen were heading to Skipper island for fishing. Bodies of the missing people have not yet been retrieved.

“There was a similar incidence on November 2, 2020 in which a plank boat was hit by a strong wave in which 70 year old man identified as Elliot Mwansa is feared dead while Emmanuel Mishimbwe 35, managed to swim to safety.
The body has not yet been found,” he said.
