Three people have died while six others sustained injuries in a road traffic accident, five kilometers south of Isoka District on the Great North Road.
The accident occurred today, around 09:00 hours involving Misheck Gwewa 37 of unknown address driving a motor vehicle Scania truck and trailer registration number AJE2310/AJA4795 from south to north loaded with unknown number of bags of soya beans destined for Nakonde with six passengers on board.
And a stationery Scania truck and trailer registration number T 393DMB/T602ATS, another stationery Scania truck and trailer registration number T 337CZF/T114CZT, a stationery unregistered Honda, a stationery man truck and trailer registration number T 506DCF/T718AYZ, a stationery DAF truck and trailer registration number T 310DHA/T534DCV and a HOWO truck and trailer registration number T 468DLL/T905DLE .
Police spokesperson Esther Katongo confirmed the development in a statement that the accident happened when the Scania truck loaded with soya beans developed defective brakes and in the process rammed into the other five motor vehicles and a motor bike.
Ms Katongo said the driver died on spot with two other passengers Gilliard Kasonde of Mpika while the other body was still trapped in the vehicle.
She said three passengers are admitted to Isoka District Hospital while three (03) others from other trucks sustained slight injuries and were treated as outpatient.
