23 makeshift stands burnt to ashes at Chiwempala market

Fire has swept through a portion of Chiwempala market in Chingola and has gutted about 23 wooden make shift shops which mainly deals in furniture, as well as two containers of Cement burning into ashes

Fire brigades from KCM were activated and they managed to put off the fire, though everything was already burnt.

Copper belt Police Commanding Officer Sharon Zulu said the cause of fire and value of properties damaged is not yet known.

Ms Zulu said investigations have since been instituted into the matter.

She said Police visited the crime scene and found fire had already destroyed the said shops.

And Chingola Municipal Council Public Relations Manager said about 25 traders are affected by fire that swept through furniture stands along the Chiwempala Road in the early hours of today.

She said a total number of 23 makeshift stands with furniture and 2 Containers containing Cement were burnt destroying items worth thousands of Kwacha.

The fire whose cause has not yet been established started around 03:00 hours and when Council was alerted, they quickly engaged Konkola Copper Mines (KCM) Fire Brigade who arrived at the scene and managed to prevent the fire from further spreading to the rest of the shops.
