President Hakainde Hichilema says that government will start distributing the 2023/2024 farmer input support program to farmers this month February, 2023.
Speaking this morning during a live radio program, President Hichilema stated that there were a lot of corruption activities in the distribution of inputs to farmers that contributed to delay of distributing the 2022/2023 farming inputs.
He said that following an audit that has been done, it was discovered that there were fake cooperatives that were created while some civil servants were also getting fertilizer and later sold it to farmers at a cheaper price.
President Hichilema has since encouraged the people to report any corruption activities in the agriculture sector.
Meanwhile, Mr Hichilema said that Konkola Copper Mine, Mopani, Lubambi Mine, Chambishi metals, Luanshya mine among others plays a very important role to the economy of the country.
He also said that government has agreed to resolve the issues with Vedanta outside the courts stating that this is because the court case might take 10years to be resolved which might lead to loss of jobs.
Mr Hakainde said that Government wants to ensure that there is technical capacity and security at the mine.
