200 metric tons of relief dispatched to Lunga

By JOHN SAKALA
Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU) has released 200 metric tonnes of relief to Lunga district of Luapula province.

This is in the wake of the hunger situation emanating from the loss of crop due to floods experienced in the district.

DMMU National Coordinator Chanda Kabwe has since directed the DMMU Regional Coordinator and the District Commissioners for Lunga and Samfya to quickly ensure the items are transported to the district, monitor the situation and recommend if need be for additional interventions.

Mr Kabwe has also disclosed that in addition to the 200 metric tonnes, the Unit has also released palsies (Beans and other legumes) to cushion the situation and K50, 000 for transportation logistics.

DMMU has further released 100 metric tonnes of relief to Ngabwe district of Central province and another 100 metric tonnes to Lavushimanda in Muchinga province.

Mr Kabwe wishes to assure the nation that DMMU is on course to respond to all districts in need of relief assistance.

This is according to a media stamen made available by DMMU Communications Officer Racheal Chama.
