By Staff Writer
Two Police officers in Chipata are jointly charged and arrested for assaulting a person at a bar.

Constables David Kapwita 32, and Ernest Kapapa 29, both of Mwami Border Police Post were charged for the offence of Assault Occasioning Actual Bodily Harm(AOBH).

Police Spokesperson Rae Hamoonga said the Duo has been detained in police custody.

Mr Hamoonga said brief facts of the matter are that on April 1, 2022 around 21:00 hours the duo whilst at a bar at Mwami border trading centre did assault Victor Chilumbu 38, of Mwami boarder after a misunderstanding.

He said the victim sustained a swollen right eye and general body pains.

Mr Hamoonga said he was issued a police medical form and taken for medical treatment at Chipata general Hospital.

“The Police high would like to remind officers of the need to uphold human rights of citizens during the execution of their duties as police command will not tolerate a culture where officers deliberately abuse citizens,” he said.
