Police have charged and arrested two suspects in connection with the alleged murder of James Milimo who died on February 19, 2023 at the University Teaching Hospitals.
Police Deputy Spokesperson Danny Mwale said that the victim was accused of stealing a cellular phone about two months prior to his death.
Mr Mwale said on the fateful day he was pointed at by the alleged owner of the phone identified as Mwango Bunda who went and alerted his father Harold Bunda and together with a group of other people apprehended James Milimo.
He said it was during the apprehension that Milimo was beaten and later died at the University Teaching Hospitals where he was rushed for treatment.
Mr Mwale said postmortem was conducted on February 23, 2023 and the deceased was buried on the same day.
He said Police have arrested two suspects identified as Harold Bunda aged 43 of New Kabwata and Lunda Rodgers Tembo aged 33 of Kabwata Site and Service in connection with the offence.
“Our Investigations have indicated that the two suspects were part of the group that assaulted the deceased. They have been charged with the offence of murder and detained in Police custody waiting for court appearance, investigations are ongoing,” he said.
