Police in Chingola have apprehended a girlfriend and boyfriend who are suspected to have been behind the robberies that took place on December 8, 2022.
Francis Mukondya 19 and Lukumo Kayebeta 18 for being in possession of a Crevena Zastava pistol Serial Number 252022, Calibre 7.65mm model- 70.
Copperbelt Police Commanding Officer Peacewell Mweemba said that upon being interrogated Mukondya disclosed he got the firearm from his girlfriend Lukumo Kayebeta of Riverside drive.
He said Mukondya later led the police to the apprehension of Lukumo his girlfriend.
Mr Mweemba said that after Lukumo was interviewed she said she stole the pistol from her sick grandfather
The incident occurred on December 8, 2020 at around 01:30 hours.
This is in connection with the aggravated robbery that happened in Kabundi East on 7th July and 8 December, 2022
Police said they recorded separate cases of aggravated robbery where a Toyota Noah and Ford Escape were stolen in Kabundi East of Chingola.
Mr Mweemba said the robberies were organized by Francis Mukondya and his girlfriend Lukomo, elder sister Jane Mwila and Elias Chileshe, who is Munkondya’s friend.
He said Job Ngandwe and his son Junior are victims of the robbery of a Ford Escape and a Toyota Noah, which happened at their residency in Kabundi East and Elias Chileshe of the same area was named as the suspect.
“Brief facts are that between on December 7, and December 8, 2022, the Anti-robbery officers were on night patrol and at about 00:30hrs received information from the grandfather to the suspect Francis Mukondya who informed the Police that his grandson now accused was telling his friends that his grandfather the informer has a lot of money and that he wanted to organize some people to go and attack him and rob him.”
“When the information reached the reporter he suspected the grandson to be in possession of a firearm because he was tipped that his grandson has a firearm that is how come the Police were informed and later picked the suspect who has admitted to have committed the robberies,” he said.
Mr Mweemba said that however, Lukumo and Jane with Munkondya have been apprehended and detained in police custody, while the other suspect who knows the whereabouts of the Toyota Noah is on the run.
