Kaoma magistrate court has sentenced two local musicians, Chibiya Maabu popularly known as ‘Lazi D’ and Ndumba Ndumba, to 16 years imprisonment with hard labour for theft and burglary.
The duo appeared before resident Magistrate Crispin Hampungani, facing over 10 counts of theft and burglary.
Facts before the court are that between January 1st and 13th 2020, the duo did break into five different homes in Kaoma township, stealing assorted households mostly electrical appliances that ranged from television sets, radios, laptops and cellular phones
When they appeared for plea, the duo pleaded guilty upon their own submission in all the five charges they were facing.
In mitigation, Maabu told the court to have mercy on him because he had children and his wife was pregnant and needed his care, adding that sentencing him to serve a jail sentence would make his dependants suffer.
Ndumba told magistrate Hampungani that he resorted to stealing because of lack of employment.
In passing judgment, Magistrate Hampungani told the duo that he had heard their mitigation and they did not waste the courts time by admitting to all the charges.
He noted that the two were perpetual and notorious criminals who continuously broke into peoples’ homes for a period more than three months.
The magistrate said the duo had committed a felony that needed serious punishment to deter would-be offenders.
