19 nabbed for demarcating land in Zesco power line

Police in Lusaka have apprehended 19 people who were found demarcating land in Zesco high voltage power lines in Kabwata Site and Service.

Deputy Police Spokesperson Danny Mwale said the suspects who include three females and an 80 year old man have all been charged with the offence of Criminal Trespass.

Mr Mwale said Police who rushed to the scene after a tip off from members of the public, rounded up the suspects around 14:00 hours in Kabwata Site and Service.

He said the suspects are all from Kabwata Site and Service and Kamwala South in Lusaka.

They are all detained in Police custody.

And in another development Police in Lundazi are holding a-37-year old Chinese national identified as Wu Zhigang of Makeni area in Lusaka for the offence of attempted murder.

Mr Zhigang is alleged to have shot Edward Manda 46 of Zumwanda area in Lumezi District who was among other people found picking some aqua stones at Jin Wan Mine.

The mine is said to belong to the Chinese nationals.

Mr Mwale said the victim was shot on the left thigh causing him to sustain a fractured leg, his currently admitted to Chipata General Hospital where he is receiving treatment.

The incident occurred on July 3, 2022 at round 13:30 hours at Jin Wan Mine located in Zumwanda area of Lumezi District.

Police officers who rushed to the scene recovered a pistol believed to have been used in the act with one round of ammunition.

And a 44 year old man identified as Simon Banda of Nchute area in Chongwe District was found dead in his house where he was sleeping with his wife and three others.

Police officers who visited the scene found the deceased lying in a pool of blood with a deep cut on the left side of the mouth.

Initial investigations revealed that the deceased had a quarrel with his wife after coming back from a drinking spree.

The incident is suspected to have occurred between July 2, 2022 around 21:00 hours and July 3, 2022 around 01:00 hours in Nchute area of Chongwe District.

The body of the deceased has been deposited in UTH Mortuary awaiting postmortem.

The wife identified as Alice Chipaya 44, together with three of her relatives are detained in Police Custody.
