The Ministry of Health has expressed concern with the continued disregard, with impunity, to directives put in place to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

Health Permanent Secretary Technical Services Kennedy Malama said in statement that the ministry carried out patrols during the Heroes and Unity holiday and found a number of drinking premises reopening despite being directed not to operate.

“During an operation, Lusaka alone closed down 28 premises, including 6 nightclubs and 16 bars; Government continues with its resources into the Covid-19 response, and it has continued to receive overwhelming support through diplomatic ties and various international and local partners,” he said.

Dr Malama said government has also received Covid-19 vaccines from various diplomatic ties.

“The United States Government has confirmed their contribution of 165,600 doses of Johnson & Johnson Covid-19 vaccines though the COVAX facility which will be in country within the month of July 2021,” he said.

Dr Malama said the Ministry of Health so far administered 2,354 Dose 2 of AstraZeneca vaccinations.
