14 perish in a road traffic accident involving a UCZ bus

Fourteen people have died in a road traffic accident after United Church of Zambia Rosa Bus collided with a truck in Pemba District.
The 26-seater bus belonging to United Church of Zambia (UCZ) was headed for Lusaka from Maamba.

UCZ General Secretary Chipasha Musaba confirmed the incident in a statement issued yesterday that the church is saddened by the incident which has claimed 14 lives.

“At least 14 people in a Road Traffic Accident when the United Church of Zambia Maamba Consistory Enterprise 26-seater bus Lusaka bound passenger bus number four had a head on collision with a truck,” he said.

Mr Musaba said the accident happened in the early hours of Thursday in Pemba Southern Province.

“The church is stricken with deep grief at the loss of lives in the accident and is praying to God for the bereaved families and the church in Maamba for God’s comfort,” he said

Musaba said the UCZ Synod is waiting for a comprehensive statement from relevant authorities on the cause of the mishap and the condition of the survivors.

Among the deceased are eight males while six are females.

The survivors were rushed to Monze Mission Hospital,where they are admitted.

Seven survivors are said to be in a critical condition.
